Students spend 12 months on work placement in leading continental and Irish hotels. The placement reinforces the practical training and language studies of Year 1 and builds knowledge of industry practice and systems.

The Year 2 placement is at operative level and is undertaken in Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, the UK or Ireland. A student’s foreign language option and visa requirements determine the placement location. Hotels normally require an interview prior to accepting students on placement. Shannon College’s Placement Manager coordinates and manages the interview and placement process. Students are prepared for interviews throughout Year 1 in Business Communications and Personal Development class and language classes.

Erasmus Funding

Students undertaking their Year 2 Placement in another EU country may be eligible to receive an Erasmus Mobility Grant, funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme: Erasmus. The grant amount varies from country to country and will be based on the recognised cost of living in each country.
