Postgraduate Programme

The M.Sc. in Business and Hospitality is designed for those with hospitality/business qualifications or experience who wish to develop their knowledge of hospitality systems, trends and business applications to an advanced level. The programme is designed as a specialist course which assists students in blending their existing talents with the advanced hospitality and business skills and knowledge needed to manage a modern hospitality organisation.

Programme Structure

The programme will be offered on a full-time basis over one academic year or on a part-time basis over two academic years. The programme will consist of lectures, seminars, industry exposure, experiential learning, in-company study, computer-based simulation, guest speakers and projects in the relevant subjects. To be eligible for the award of the M.Sc. in Business and Hospitality, candidates must successfully complete modules to a total of 90 ECTS. A candidate who has passed all of the modules in Semester 1 and 2 within a period of two years from commencement of the programme shall be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Hospitality.

Graduates with the skills taught in this programme will be highly valued by a range of business and hospitality organisations, both nationally and internationally. The College will organise recruitment fairs in the final semester to give students the opportunity to meet with future employers.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Candidates for the MSc in Business and Hospitality will normally hold, or expect to hold before the programme commences, an undergraduate degree, usually a second class honours or equivalent in a related area. IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent if applicable.

Candidates will also have to pass an entrance interview as part of the admissions process for the MSc.

Pre Master’s Programme

The Pre-Master’s Programme is an intensive English course which provides non-native speakers with the language skills necessary to pursue a Master’s degree in an Irish university. The 16-week programme expands on the students’ existing competencies in English, while further developing areas such as academic skills, business writing, public speaking, critical thinking, and adapting to Western culture. The course runs from April to August and upon successful completion students will be able to commence their chosen Master’s programme in September. An IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent is required. Students presenting an IELTS score of 5.5 will be considered provided they have no band score lower than 5. 5.

How to Apply

Online Application (via PAC)

Applications are made online through PAC. PAC opens on the 1st of November to accept applications for entry to the 2018-2019 academic year. Prospective students access the system through PAC on www.pac.ie/nuigalway.ie

Applications are submitted via an online form, and a step by step guide will assist you through the process. The PAC code is GYC42. The cost of applying is €50, and this is a non-refundable application fee, payable to PAC.

Supporting Documents

When making an online application to PAC, additional documentation to supplement your application such as a personal statement, CV, etc. will be required.

All supporting documents (specifying the PAC application number you will be assigned) relevant to the application may be posted to Admissions at the following address: Shannon College of Hotel Management, Shannon Airport, Co Clare.

Alternatively you may upload supporting documents to your online application via your PAC account. Please note that if uploading transcripts only certified copies will be accepted.
