 “Time and
again in my own travels, I have met people who have
reflected back on the story of Shannon College. In
particular, the talk has always come around when
we are in hotels about the graduates of this College.
I’ve heard it spoken of in so many diverse
places with deep respect and every time its name
has been mentioned, I have felt that lovely glow
of pride that comes from being associated with something
so highly respected and, indeed, which is and has been
the seedbed of faith in the talents and abilities
of our people, our country”.
President Mary McAleese, President of Ireland, speaking
at the 50th anniversary gala banquet.

Shannon College was founded in 1951 by Dr.
Brendan O’Regan, one of modern Ireland’s
most influential figures, to train managers for the Irish
hotel industry. Since then, it has become Ireland’s
leading college of hotel management and has established an international
reputation for excellence. In addition, Shannon College
is a College of the National University of Ireland and
has particularly close ties with the National University
of Ireland, Galway.
Both of the degree courses, which Shannon College
offers, are awarded by the National University of Ireland
and are recognised by The International Hotel and Restaurant
Association, The Hotel, Catering and International
Management Association (H.C.I.M.A.) (UK) and The Irish
Hotel and Catering Institute. Both of the latter organisations
award a full professional membership on the basis of
all qualifications.
