The Foundation Language Programme caters specifically for the English language needs of students who intend to enrol on the Bachelor of Business Studies in International Hotel Management degree course in the College. It is also suitable for students who wish to study for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at any other English-speaking college or university. It is ideally suited to students who have attained the minimum academic requirements for the degree course in Shannon or their chosen degree but need to improve their spoken and written English. Students who successfully complete the Foundation Language Programme will be awarded the National University of Ireland Certificate in English Language Studies.Click here to learn more about the structure of the Foundation Language Programmes.
Student Life
The Foundation Language Programme also gives students the opportunity to settle into college life and become familiar with living in Ireland. The course comprises 15 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. This leaves plenty of time for study and extra-curricular activities.
Students are actively encouraged to find part-time jobs. This is an excellent way of integrating themselves into Irish life. The interaction with native speakers in a professional environment greatly benefits their language learning as they encounter and use the language in a real life context.
A number of social events and outings for the students. These include greyhound racing, ten-pin bowling and excursions to famous regional attractions such as: the Lakes of Killarney, Bunratty Castle, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands.
The College has a truly multi-cultural student body. To date, the Foundation Language Programme has welcomed students from China, Korea, Russia, Belgium, Pakistan and India.
Student Advisor
There is a student advisor in the College to help the students with any queries or difficulties they might have. This person is available to assist students in finding accommodation, advise them with regard to transport, part-time jobs, banking and health services and any other issues that may arise. |
